“Our Relief Society, in Singen, Germany, has been knitting these little caps to send to Africa for the newborn babies. The babies require their heads to be covered soon after they are born or many end up dying from being exposed to the elements. We are happy to be involved in this worldwide […]

The letter Ayin ע and the letter Aleph א are both silent letters when pronounced in Hebrew. The Aleph which is the first Hebrew character represents God. Ayin means eye or sight in Hebrew. There is a very important message that these two Hebrew letters symbolically give because they are silent. In Psalm 46:10 it […]

I’m going to depart from my normal post format and talk about life—my (new) viewpoint of life, that is. Okay, I admit, this is another pep talk to myself, made public this time. I just saw Julie & Julia and I have some serious deep thoughts about it. Now what in the world does this […]

The Relief Society originally set up Deseret Hospital in the Twelfth Ward of the city of Salt Lake, in 1882. Two years later, it was moved to the Seventeenth Ward occupying the old Deseret University Building on the corner of 2nd West and 1st North (I believe this is where the Relief Society Building now […]

| Female Relief Society of Nauvoo Minutes

President Joseph Smith was in attendance at this meeting.  It was noted that the room was full to overflowing with sisters wanting to become members of the new Society. (We don’t have that desire anymore.  Sisters are too busy, preoccupied, or don’t feel included.  How do we bring our sisterhood together, from the youthful sister, […]

We all grew up with the wonderful stories of Mary Fielding Smith showing her true womanhood as she crossed the plains.  We applauded her courage, determination, and her success.  In the book, “ The Women of Mormondom”, written by Edward W. Tullidge in 1877, and edited by Eliza R. Snow, we get the full account.  […]

“Our ward is always doing creative things to provide for the needs of the sisters.  We have held fairs where several different areas are covered to help a woman feel better about herself.  Most women respond well to that. Upon the death of a spouse, the Relief Society sorted through the deceased person’s clothes to […]

| Accomplishments of Relief Society

When the original Nauvoo Relief Society disbanded in 1844, the women stopped formally meeting together. But, the spirit of women cannot be hushed. Groups of women still managed to meet. They were still concerned for the poor, for one another, and for the needs of the community. In 1847, while the Saints gathered in Winter […]

When the “key was turned” by Joseph Smith, we, women of the Relief Society, were given knowledge and power to go where we were needed, to do what we needed to do, to step in, to uplift, to teach, to motivate, to bless, to create, to benefit, and to relieve in the way we see […]
