While volunteering as a Church Museum Docent, an exhibit called “Something Extraordinary” opened up about the history of the Relief Society. We docents were learning about history we had never heard about. We were thrilled to share it with the sisters that were coming in to see these artifacts. It shouldn’t have surprised us to realize that most of the sisters coming through were also unfamiliar with our Relief Society’s history. It concerned me so much that I decided to start this blog where I could write about all the amazing things our early sisters have done. As our sisters in Nauvoo heard the prophet Joseph Smith teach them their role they set off to accomplish great things–which they did. Women have led, guided, influenced, and accomplished much since the Church has been restored to the earth. As Satan encroaches upon our homes, families, and lifestyles, we need to consistently resist worldly influences and re-establish our strength under the name of Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sisters, we can push forward, in the name of the Lord, to understand our history, our purposes, and our destiny.<\/span><\/p>\n

From time to time I have help from my husband, Stephen, and my daughters, Callie, Kimberly, and Rochelle, who express their wisdom and thoughts. I appreciate their help and support.<\/span><\/p>\n

My name is Jan Tolman. I am a wife, mother of six, and grandmother of eight. Besides enjoying my research into the history of the Relief Society, I also read voraciously, make art quilts, and volunteer for too many things. I graduated from BYU in 2017 with a degree in Creative Writing. (Whew! That took me 9 years after raising my children.) Most of all, I have a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
