{"id":11882,"date":"2024-09-24T14:55:08","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T20:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/?p=11882"},"modified":"2024-09-24T14:55:57","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T20:55:57","slug":"revelation-for-our-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/2024\/09\/24\/revelation-for-our-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Revelation for Our Lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a General Conference Odyssey post for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofjesuschrist.org\/study\/general-conference\/2006\/10?lang=eng\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Relief Society session of the October 2006 General Conference.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Sometimes, it seems like, on Sundays, we talk about our General Conference talks without really discussing how to apply what they are really trying to teach us. Sometimes, when I listen to women in Relief Society talk about their overwhelming frustrations with life, with home, and family, it sounds like they have forgotten what we have in the way of relief. Too often we look for other solutions. Too often we forget what God wants for us and has given us freely. Sometimes, I wish we would talk more about how to practice our abilities, gifts, and power in receiving revelation from our most loving Father.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Pres.-Nelson.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9859 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Pres.-Nelson.jpg?resize=300%2C155&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Pres.-Nelson.jpg?resize=300%2C155&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Pres.-Nelson.jpg?w=580&amp;ssl=1 580w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>President Nelson<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\"> has been very clear how important it is for us to learn how to listen to the Spirit. We need to recognize how he speaks to us and learn to receive our own personal revelation. He said,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI plead with you to increase your spiritual capacity to receive revelation. \u2026 Choose to do the spiritual work required to enjoy the gift of the Holy Ghost and hear the voice of the Spirit more frequently and more clearly.\u201d He even said these important words, \u201cIn coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He spoke these words with a lot of love and a lot of urgency in 2018. But, we\u2019ve been<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Kathleen-Hughes.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11884\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Kathleen-Hughes.jpeg?resize=300%2C168&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Kathleen-Hughes.jpeg?resize=300%2C168&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Kathleen-Hughes.jpeg?resize=768%2C431&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Kathleen-Hughes.jpeg?w=900&amp;ssl=1 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> reminded many times over the years. In her 2006 address, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofjesuschrist.org\/study\/general-conference\/2006\/10\/remembering-the-lords-love?lang=eng\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sister Kathleen H. Hughes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency, is reminding us about something we really already know.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe actions we need to take are known to us: genuine prayer that is specific and humble, followed by quiet listening for the Lord\u2019s answers; regular scripture study and time to ponder what we read; and, finally, a willingness to be introspective about ourselves and to trust in the Lord\u2019s promise that He will \u2018make weak things become strong unto [us]\u2019 (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofjesuschrist.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/ether\/12.27?lang=eng#p27\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ether 12:27<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). As we study and ponder, we are entitled to the promptings of the Spirit, and as we grow more attentive to these promptings, we come to recognize each day the workings of the Lord in our lives.\u201d And, she adds how we should be teaching our children, without hesitation or apology, \u201cOur children need to hear us \u201ctalk of Christ, \u2026 rejoice in Christ, [and] preach of Christ\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofjesuschrist.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/2-ne\/25.26?lang=eng#p26\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 Nephi 25:26<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) so that they may know to what source they can look for the peace that \u201cpasseth all understanding\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofjesuschrist.org\/study\/scriptures\/nt\/philip\/4.7?lang=eng#p7\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philippians 4:7<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">The promise of peace is there! Even though this world weighs us down with burdens, worries, despair, heartache, and so on, we have been given all the rights and privileges of daughters of a God with revelatory solutions to our problems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Our answer lies in understanding how revelation works between each one of us and the Lord. It takes practice and time. It takes intentional concentration, pondering, and repeating regularly all the requirements: scripture study, prayer, obedience, temple service, etc. We must learn to turn to the only true answer, even Jesus Christ.
