{"id":122,"date":"2008-09-29T18:56:39","date_gmt":"2008-09-30T00:56:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/?p=122"},"modified":"2012-03-22T16:14:24","modified_gmt":"2012-03-22T22:14:24","slug":"food-storage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/2008\/09\/29\/food-storage\/","title":{"rendered":"Food Storage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was shopping at the case lot sales and had an interesting conversation with the guy demonstrating his \u201cMorning Moo\u201d products.\u00a0 He told me that his products would be on sale every other month for the rest of the year.\u00a0 I told him that was so great, because I for one, hate to walk into one case lot sale a year and be expected to buy everything all at once.\u00a0 With having so many sales over a period of time, it allows me time \u00a0to set aside additional money to get more of what I need, rather than just making snap decisions.\u00a0 When pressured, I often end up buying something my family has never, nor would ever eat.\u00a0 I hate decisions made too quickly.<br \/>\nWe are all worried about the economy right now, but there is no need to panic.\u00a0 We can still provide security to our families.\u00a0 The important thing is to not go into debt, but to actually do something about our situation.<br \/>\nAs I walked through the store, I thought of all the corners I could begin cutting. \u00a0I have bought day old bread, for cheap, forever, but it won\u2019t kill me to start making my own bread every once in a while.\u00a0 Jam is just too expensive for me to consider buying an entire case, when making it just isn\u2019t that big a deal.\u00a0 I quit buying cereal a couple of months ago (my family is still in semi-revolt over that).\u00a0 I used to have a strict rule:\u00a0 I will not purchase cereal if it is over $2.\u00a0 I can\u2019t do that anymore.\u00a0 I\u2019ve started making granola.\u00a0 Granola isn\u2019t necessarily cheap, but I can decide how simple or fancy I want it to be.\u00a0 I\u2019m also considering serving rice and beans for a month straight (some variety added to please my husband) just to see if we CAN do it before we HAVE to do it.\u00a0 With that saved money I can load up on even more food.<br \/>\nAnother thing Mr. Morning Moo told me was about a strike that lasted for six weeks, at the grocery company he worked for in California years ago.\u00a0 People panicked.\u00a0 The Seven-Elevens and small stores were still getting supplies, so when a shipment came in, people were lined up and waiting.\u00a0 Fights would break out, and yes, there were deaths&#8212;over food.\u00a0<br \/>\nI don\u2019t know about you, but I don\u2019t want to see the signs, not do anything now, while I can, and end up in line waiting for the chance to be killed.\u00a0 I repeat, there is no need to panic, but there is need to act.\u00a0<br \/>\nWe have time to really look at how we use food.\u00a0 Are we eating too much? Duh!
