We talk a lot about one on one; reaching out to the one, finding ones to teach.\u00a0 I did a topical guide search on the word \u201cone\u201d and came up with\u00a0this perspective.<\/p>\n
First of all, thanks to Joseph Smith, we know it\u2019s possible to stand before God and speak to Him as a man talks with another (JS-H 1:17-19, Abr. 3:11), \u201cone on one\u201d.\u00a0 For me, that is important information.\u00a0 As I kneel to pray, I can imagine myself at the feet of my Father, with His ear bent toward me, listening intently, for he sees me as \u201cone\u201d of His children.<\/p>\n
The Trinity is vague and distant, but the Godhead is close by and accessible.\u00a0 Again, thanks to Joseph, we know there are three distinct Gods, yet they are \u201cone\u201d in purpose (2 Ne 31:21, A of F 1).<\/p>\n
These are two different ideas that intrigue me.\u00a0 How does the word \u201cone\u201d capture the image of individuality, as well as, total and complete unity?<\/p>\n
God\u2019s work and glory is \u201cto bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man\u201d (Moses 1:39).\u00a0 Like the great teacher that He is, He invites us all to be a part of this work (D&C 29:2,7).<\/p>\n
While teaching us to bring every \u201cone\u201d together, He demands that we commit ourselves first (first one, then others); (Mosiah 18:21-22) \u201cwith one eye, having one faith and one baptism\u201d.\u00a0 Only then can our \u201chearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 Think of the temple.\u00a0 We go first for ourselves as one of God\u2019s children.\u00a0 Then we go for other \u201cones\u201d of God\u2019s children, \u201cone by one\u201d, each done on an individual level, all while creating a great linking chain of \u201cone\u201d complete family.<\/p>\n
In fact, being a member of God\u2019s one true gospel, there are several demands placed upon us.\u00a0 We must have \u201cone\u201d heart and \u201cone\u201d soul (Acts 4:32), be of \u201cone\u201d mind (2 Cor. 13:11), love \u201cone\u201d another, and cease to find fault \u201cone\u201d with another (D&C 88:123-4).\u00a0 Have no \u2013ites among you, but be \u201cone\u201d (4 Ne 1:17).\u00a0 No longer will there be two, but \u201cone\u201d nation and \u201cone\u201d king (Ezek 37:22).<\/p>\n
Jesus Christ tells us we must be \u201cone\u201d with Him, but then He shows us by inviting us to come \u201cone by one\u201d (as individuals) to touch the marks in his hands and feet (3 Ne 11:15).\u00a0 We weren\u2019t there among the Nephites, but He will come again and we will have our own \u201cone by one\u201d opportunity to shed our tears upon His palms and purse our lips to His feet.\u00a0 Jesus had just come from the cross in Jerusalem, it had been a long three days for Him, yet He let the people come \u201cone by one\u201d for more than ten hours.<\/p>\n
Now, what are we doing with this commission?\u00a0 Can we not bring other sheep to Christ, so they might commune \u201cone on one\u201d?\u00a0 Is visiting that one sister after our own long day too much trouble?\u00a0 Can saying Hello, volunteering to help, inviting one more time, be more than we want to do?<\/p>\n
Jesus doesn\u2019t use guilt to force us.\u00a0 There is no contention where He is.\u00a0 It is the Spirit that moves us into action.\u00a0 Let the Spirit be your motivation.\u00a0 When you pray, ask Heavenly Father for direction, courage, and ability.\u00a0 This is His work and glory and we are mere, yet eager, participants.<\/p>\n
It is our singular (one) blessing to \u201cdeclare His word\u2026unto the ends of the earth\u201d (3 Ne 11:41)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
