{"id":136,"date":"2008-10-15T18:07:39","date_gmt":"2008-10-16T00:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/?p=136"},"modified":"2012-03-22T15:46:13","modified_gmt":"2012-03-22T21:46:13","slug":"strong-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/15\/strong-families\/","title":{"rendered":"Strong Families"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What makes a strong family?<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ideas that will strengthen your family:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Everyone needs to feel love\u2014freely give hugs, kisses, \u201cI love yous\u201d and expressions of love.<\/li>\n<li>Families need to understand sacrifice\u2014parents have no business giving everything to their children, and children have no business asking incessantly for everything.\u00a0 Birthdays and Christmas should be simple and special.\u00a0 The \u201cI wants\u201d should be minimized.\u00a0 Cutting back, doing without, and having accepting attitudes should be instilled in every household.<\/li>\n<li>Moms and Dads need to be able to play with their children\u2014and children need to be willing to play with mom and dad.\u00a0 Laugh together.\u00a0 Play together.\u00a0 EAT TOGETHER, and talk together always.<\/li>\n<li>The \u201cJones Family\u201d does not exist.<\/li>\n<li>Parents need to continue dating and romancing one another, especially AFTER the kids come along.\u00a0 Find a way, go out of your way, and do it regularly.<\/li>\n<li>Communication is the biggest problem in marriages and families.\u00a0 Couples need to be willing to talk about ANYTHING!\u00a0 Get everything out on the table, but be kind about it.\u00a0 Do not avoid things, work it out.\u00a0 Be willing to give and take.\u00a0 Parents need to teach children how to communicate.\u00a0 Open the lines at every opportunity.\u00a0 Listen with your ears, not your mouth.\u00a0 Parents are not \u201cfriends\u201d and friends are not \u201cparents\u201d, honor the proper authority.<\/li>\n<li>The church has provided standards that should be followed, obeyed, and used as backup for parents\u2019 rules.\u00a0 The world is an unpredictable and wicked place.\u00a0 Not everyone is \u201cdoing it\u201d.\u00a0 Parents have the sole responsibility of safeguarding their children.\u00a0 No one else will do it, should do it, or wants to do it.<\/li>\n<li>Do not let anything as insignificant as money be your family\u2019s downfall.\u00a0 Be wise, be a team player, work with what you make, sacrifice and save always, share, be trustworthy.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be too rich for your britches.<\/li>\n<li>If a parent can\u2019t do anything else to bring the family together, they can always pray.\u00a0 Prayer is the lifeblood of our faith and should never be underestimated.\u00a0 All prayers will be answered, just not on our timeframe.\u00a0 Hold on, endure to the end, and trust in the Lord.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If Satan wins and destroys our families, the plan of salvation will fail.\u00a0 Well, we know Satan isn\u2019t going to win, but we do know he\u2019s going to do a lot of damage.\u00a0 DO NOT become a casualty!\u00a0 Fight him.\u00a0 Fight for your family.\u00a0 Do whatever it takes.<\/p>\n<p>As Relief Society sisters, we should be helping, supporting, and strengthening one another in the struggle to raise righteous families.\u00a0 There is no room to judge one another.\u00a0 There is no room to be jealous of one another.\u00a0 We must make room to build one another up, encourage one another, and share ideas.\u00a0 Generating strategies, talking out our frustrations, seeing how others do it are all ways women can help one another.\u00a0 Let\u2019s be there for each other.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What makes a strong family?
