Cleveland.\u00a0 Mrs. Prest. Not present.\u00a0 House full to overflowing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Whitney rejoiced in the numbers present and the show of faith with their works from the donations offered.\u00a0 Joseph and Emma walked in and Joseph began teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting from Ezek. 14, he preached that everyone needs to stand on their own in accepting God.\u00a0 If they choose idols, they will fall.\u00a0 He also warned that females possess a sensitivity that can make them zealous, which can be dangerous and cause rigidity.\u00a0 Women must be armed with mercy toward those struggling, or on probation.\u00a0 \u201cWith deep feeling, said that they are our fellows, we loved them once.\u00a0 Shall we not encourage them to reformation?\u00a0 The unworthy are among us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Society should encourage one another toward righteousness.\u00a0 He had two things to recommend to the Society:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Put a double watch over the tongue. (See Lesson #39 of the Joseph Smith Manual where more quotes are recorded from this meeting, on this topic.)<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cYe shall do the work which ye see me do.\u00a0 These are the grand key words for the Society to act from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emma then stood up and said all idle rumors and idle talk must be laid aside.\u00a0 She wanted none in this Society who had violated the laws of virtue.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I am beginning to see why these Minute notes were meant to become our Constitution.\u00a0 In them, hold the expectations, the directives, the purpose of our Relief Society.<\/p>\n<p>The Minute Book is now online at <a title=\"Joseph Smith Papers\" href=\"http:\/\/josephsmithpapers.org\/paperSummary\/nauvoo-relief-society-minute-book\">Joseph Smith Papers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ninth Meeting of the Society met on May 26th, 1842. \u201cMeeting opened with singing \u2018How Firm a Foundation\u2019.\u00a0 Prayer by Coun.
