Whitney asked a few of the sisters the day before, to meet somewhere else and pray together, since there was no room for them.\u00a0 At this meeting they were all able to be together.)<\/p>\n<p>Emma opened the meeting expressing the need for unity in doing good to the poor.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Smith and Bishop Whitney came up to the stand and Bishop Whitney addressed the women.\u00a0 He said that he rejoiced at the formation of the Society that we might improve upon our talents and to prepare for those blessings which God is soon to bestow upon us.\u00a0 The following is a direct quote\u2026in all its glory:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the beginning, God created man, male and female, and bestow\u2019d upon man certain blessings peculiar to a man of God, of which woman partook, so that without the female all things cannot be restor\u2019d to the earth.\u00a0 It takes all to restore the Priesthood.\u00a0 It is the intent of the Society, by humility and faithfulness, in connection with those husbands who are found worthy.\u00a0 I rejoice while contemplating the blessings which will be pour\u2019d out on the heads of the saints.\u00a0 God has many precious things to bestow even to our astonishment if we are faithful.\u00a0 I say again, I rejoice in the prospect of what lays before.\u00a0 It becomes us to prepare by striving for union one with another, that we may be prepared for the day of choosing\u2014man will not choose but God will say who IS and who is NOT worthy.<\/p>\n<p>(Eliza wrote along the margin, \u201call to restore the Priesthood\u201d.\u00a0 This is what we need to understand:\u00a0 the priesthood is not completely restored unless both men and women are organized in their respective duties.)<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Whitney continues by cautioning against vanity and going against God.\u00a0 We must seek after intelligence and instruction, receiving grace for grace, light and intelligence.\u00a0 \u201cIf we have intelligence we have pow\u2019r\u2014knowledge is power.\u201d\u00a0 As we seek after knowledge, let us push away evil.\u00a0 Then live that charity can cover our failings, always reaching out to bring back those who have wandered.\u00a0 Even though we have different views, we must bring our minds and wills into subjection to the law of the Lord, and have unity.<\/p>\n<p>He concluded with these words, \u201cI wish to encourage you to persevere in the ways of righteousness.\u00a0 I tell you there are blessings before to be confer\u2019d as soon as our hearts are prepar\u2019d to receive them\u2014you have my heart\u2019s desire for the prosperity of the Society and pray my heav\u2019nly Father that you may go on and glorify your profession.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(Somehow, we as women don\u2019t understand this very important message.\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019s just not emphasized anymore, nevertheless, we as women need to understand it, know it, and believe it.\u00a0 God looks at women to carry out half of all that is required.\u00a0 The men cannot fulfill their responsibilities without us.\u00a0 Ultimately, it takes the work of both men and women in order for anyone to be saved.\u00a0 Women are that important for the Plan of our Father to succeed.\u00a0 As soon as we gain understanding of this knowledge, we will have righteous power, enough to receive the great blessings that are in store.)<\/p>\n<p>The Minute Book is now online at <a title=\"Joseph Smith Papers\" href=\"http:\/\/josephsmithpapers.org\/paperSummary\/nauvoo-relief-society-minute-book\">Joseph Smith Papers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 10th Meeting of the Relief Society was held on May 27th, 1842, in the grove.\u00a0 (That means they outgrew their room.\u00a0 Sis.
