He instructed us to pull out some paper and a pen, and with our notes teach our families about the true meaning of Christmas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Tree<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">He first points out a regular Christmas tree. When you gaze upon your Christmas tree, remember the Tree of Life. What does the Tree of Life symbolize?\u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/1-ne\/11.25?lang=eng\">1 Ne 11:25<\/a>) When Lehi crosses over to the tree, what is the first thing he desires? (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/1-ne\/8.12?lang=eng\">1 Ne 8:12<\/a>) <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">When Lehi partakes of the fruit he describes it as \u201cmost sweet\u201d and \u201cwhite, to exceed all the whiteness that I had ever seen\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/1-ne\/8.11?lang=eng\">1 Ne 8:11<\/a>) What does the fruit represent? The fruit is described as most white, most sweet, makes one happy, fills us with joy, precious above all, most joyous, the love of God, (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/1-ne\/8.?lang=eng\">1 Ne 8<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/1-ne\/11.?lang=eng\">11<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/alma\/5.?lang=eng\">Alma 5:34 &amp; 62<\/a>)\u00a0 Alma 32 teaches us how to grow our own tree, which through faith, diligence, and patience, our own fruit will fill us with the blessings of the Atonement (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/alma\/32.42?lang=eng\">Alma 32: 42<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Lights<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Then he pointed out the Christmas lights. Imagine that you are 10 years old when you hear Samuel the Lamanite foretell the coming of the Son of God. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/hel\/14.2?lang=eng\">Helaman 14:2<\/a>) In verses 3 and 4, Samuel tells them when Jesus comes, there will be great lights in heaven. No darkness will come and it \u201cshall appear unto man as if it was day \u2013 one day and a night and a day as if it were one day.&#8221; In other words, LIGHT.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Five years\u00a0have gone\u00a0by\u00a0\u2013 you are now 15 years old \u2013 It is announced in town that believers in Samuel\u2019s prophecy will be killed the next morning. If, however, you are willing to deny any of this nonsense, you will be safe. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/3-ne\/1.9?lang=eng\">3 Ne 1:9<\/a>) Your father gathers the family together for Family Home Evening to discuss, as a family, what you will do.\u00a0 Are you willing to deny what you believe, or hold to your faith and be put to death? As we all know, the sign came the very next morning. The sign of the light saves the believers. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/3-ne\/1.13?lang=eng\">3 Ne 1:13<\/a>) What decision did you make?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Thunderings, earthquakes and complete darkness cover the earth. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/study\/scriptures\/bofm\/3-ne\/11.?lang=eng\">3 Ne 11<\/a>) You are now 48 years old and Samuel\u2019s prophecies have come to a profound end. Through the terrible darkness, a voice whispers to be heard. Finally, the voice is heard to say, \u201cI am the light and the life of the world.\u201d He brings with Him LIGHT.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Shepherds<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The shepherds are no ordinary shepherds. Their flock, no ordinary flock. \u00a0According to Bruce R. Mc Conkie, the flock is \u201cdestined for sacrifice in the temple.\u201d These shepherds are watching the most important flock in the region. It is no surprise that they will be the ones to hear the angels sing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">So, are you ready for Christmas?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Are you ready for CHRISTmas?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">What will be our gift to the Christ Child?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A Conversion \u2013 firm and steadfast<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A Conviction \u2013 we believe above all else<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A Desire and Plan to better know Christ and His Atoning Sacrifice<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Every time you look upon a Christmas tree, lights, and shepherds, may you think of the symbols that bear witness of the Son of God, His birth, His life, and our destiny.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">He concluded by declaring his Witness of the Son of God, the Babe in Bethlehem, the Savior, and King of the World.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was lucky to sit in at a luncheon where Elder Bednar spoke the other day.
