So, what does Virtue mean, anyway?\u00a0
\nIn\u00a0a recent Church News there are several articles discussing this value for the Young Women.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good quality, but very broad, meaning many things.\u00a0 This is what I pulled out of all of the articles I read:
\n\u201cVirtue is far more than moral cleanliness and chastity, although these are important manifestations.\u00a0 Virtue implies moral excellence \u2013 honor, integrity, courage, valor, valiance, inner purity, industry, diligence.\u201d\u00a0 Each one of these descriptions are values, virtues and qualities in themselves.
\nVirtue implies faith: \u201cthe power to choose, practice and perfect our own faith in Christ over and over again.\u201d
\nVirtue implies honesty: \u201cbeing honest and upright in all things like Ammon and his brothers.\u00a0 (Alma 27)
\nVirtue implies chastity: \u201cLearning to be steadfast when we are \u201cdespised\u201d for striving to be virtuous.\u201d
\nVirtue implies humility: \u201cthe desire to put God\u2019s will first, and a willingness to be taught.\u201d
\nVirtue implies self-discipline:\u00a0 Pres. Faust always said Idaho farm boys make the best missionaries, because they learn, at a young age, how to work hard.
\nWe all need to take a scrubbing brush to our souls occasionally to scrub out impurities that have settled and hardened in the corners of our hearts.\u00a0 Since we all get stained and corrupted to a certain extent, maybe virtue becomes the scrubbing brush that brings back our shine.
\nVirtue also develops our grace: \u201cwe can acquire the attributes of godliness.\u00a0 A person filled with grace inspires others to emulate him or her.\u201d
\nIn this day and age, we must have courage if we are to stand for anything virtuous or of good report.\u00a0 Our choice must be vocal.\u00a0 Our stance must be one of defense.\u00a0 Morals don\u2019t change, people do.\u00a0 We must defend the never changing laws of morals, decency, and truth.
\nWe must teach diligently that there is a war going on and our youth are fighting on the front lines.\u00a0 There are casualties every day.\u00a0 There are victories every day.\u00a0 There are choices that must be made every day, again and again.\u00a0 But every time the right choices are made, we must encourage our youth to stand a little taller, be a little braver, testify a little louder, and put their faith in God.\u00a0 We are going to win!\u00a0 It is clear this is what our leaders are asking us to do with this new value.
\n\u201cSisters, shall we not go on in so great a cause: Go forward and not backward.\u00a0 Courage, sisters; and on, on to the victory!\u201d (Doctrine and Covenants 128:22)<\/p>\n
Check out Elaine S. Dalton’s talk in last General Conference, “A Return to Virtue”.\u00a0 What if Relief Society were to correlate with Young Women and focus on Virtue for part of the year as a goal, as a\u00a0theme, to combine efforts and teach mothers along with their daughters, or mothers teaching their daughters.\u00a0 Activities could be devised to focus on ways to lift our virtue ratings in our homes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
