{"id":2240,"date":"2010-10-15T12:17:32","date_gmt":"2010-10-15T18:17:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/?p=2240"},"modified":"2012-04-20T15:05:06","modified_gmt":"2012-04-20T21:05:06","slug":"rs-community-peru","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/15\/rs-community-peru\/","title":{"rendered":"RS Community-Peru"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Those-That-Were-Wise2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2495\" title=\"Those That Were Wise\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Those-That-Were-Wise2-150x150.jpg?resize=150%2C150\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Those-That-Were-Wise2.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Those-That-Were-Wise2.jpg?zoom=2&amp;resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Those-That-Were-Wise2.jpg?zoom=3&amp;resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>I just returned from picking up my son from his mission, in Peru.\u00a0 What an experience!\u00a0 I made some wonderful new friends as we went around visiting many of the families my son taught and baptized.\u00a0 These people are warm, loving, accepting, and have committed themselves to the gospel.\u00a0 They struggle with hardships, poverty, and in some cases, lack of fellowship, yet, they love the gospel and recognize the truthfulness of the scriptures and the love of the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting teaching is accomplished in spite of long distances.\u00a0 At Church, there is a lot of hugging and kissing, as they greet one another and enjoy one another&#8217;s presence.\u00a0 There is a genuineness to their love and acceptance.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, I asked my son to ask all of the women we visited what the Relief Society did for them and what they loved about Relief Society.\u00a0 The answers varied, but more than anything else, they love being together.\u00a0 They loved the idea that they belonged to something that was large and alive.<\/p>\n<p>Mostly, the sisters in Peru enjoy just being together.\u00a0 I ran into wards that liked to cook together, and do crafts.\u00a0 They really love to do crafts together!\u00a0 Some of these items are made so they can be sold as additional income, but mostly they just enjoy pretty things.\u00a0 Another ward was busily making white shirts for all of the Aaronic Priesthood age boys in their ward.\u00a0 Humanitarian work is even done to help members in wards and neighborhoods.\u00a0 Imagine that, a 3rd world country still manages to help themselves.<\/p>\n<p>I loved, most of all, that my son baptized &#8211;families&#8211;.\u00a0 That is what this gospel is all about.\u00a0 Families were introduced to a Heavenly Father who loves them and cares for them.\u00a0 They learned about Jesus Christ, and His gospel here on the earth.\u00a0 They are learning how to make their lives better, because the blessings are coming into their lives as they choose to be obedient and put their faith in the Son of God.<\/p>\n<p>The sisters of Peru are alive and well, strong and beautiful, and dear to me now, forever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just returned from picking up my son from his mission, in Peru.\u00a0 What an experience!\u00a0 I made some wonderful new friends as we went around visiting many of the families my son taught and baptized.\u00a0 These people are warm, loving, accepting, and have committed themselves to the gospel.\u00a0 They struggle with hardships, poverty, and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"nf_dc_page":"","_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[483,487,484],"tags":[397,398],"class_list":["post-2240","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-acts-of-charity","category-proclaim-the-gospel","category-relief-society-challenge-ideas","tag-gallery","tag-peru"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>RS Community-Peru &#8211;
