\u201cYou were entrusted to come to the earth in these last days to do again what you did before.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0This bold statement comes from Elder James J. Hamula\u2019s Conference talk, Winning the War against Evil.\u00a0 This was a talk geared for the young men, but I feel it is worthwhile for mothers to hear it.\u00a0 Mother\u2019s can always receive additional pointers to doing their job a little better.<\/p>\n
I hear a call to all Young Men\u2026and the mothers who raise them, in this quote, \u201cYou are the strength of the Lord\u2019s house, His warriors!\u00a0 You are those who chose good over evil and who exhibited \u2018exceedingly great faith\u2019 and \u2018good works\u2019\u2026once again to choose good over evil, exercise exceedingly great faith, and perform good works.\u201d<\/p>\n
The problem lies in living in a wicked world that throws detractors at our children.\u00a0 We, as mothers of warriors, need to remember the potential of our sons and daughters.\u00a0 It is our responsibility to set them on the path, so from there, they can continue on their own.
\nI realize this is a tricky subject, because there are so many factors that come into play.\u00a0 Agency plays a huge part in this and no mother is completely responsible for their child\u2019s choices.\u00a0 However, I am going to counter that by saying not all mothers take their jobs as seriously as they should.<\/p>\n
Elder Hamula explains what soberness means:\u00a0 \u201cBeing sober means being earnest and serious in assessing your circumstances and careful and circumspect in weighing the consequences of your actions.\u00a0 Soberness therefore yields good judgment, as well as measured conduct.\u201d\u00a0 As mothers, aunts, cousins, friends, we should be living first, then teaching this valuable characteristic to our boys and girls.\u00a0 There is a consequence to every action. \u00a0Life is not just fun and games; there is a real battle going on. \u00a0The Savior of the world is depending on all of us.
\nSo many of our youth, adults too for that matter, feel this life is the time to fulfill their own personal desires.\u00a0 Church has too many restrictions.\u00a0 Mom and Dad are stupid.\u00a0 Rules don\u2019t apply.\u00a0 We all need to find ourselves.\u00a0 There is no real accountability.\u00a0 Elder Hamula says there is only one way to win against Satan:\u00a0 \u201cby the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; for they loved not their own lives, but kept the testimony even unto death\u201d.<\/p>\n
It is every mother\u2019s responsibility to teach their children the Plan of our Father, and their important role in this plan.\u00a0 Satan will be overcome, whether we are valiant or not; but isn\u2019t it so much better to be one of the faithful, those with testimonies, having consecrated their lives by forgetting themselves and giving their all to their Redeemer\u2026till death, if necessary?<\/p>\n
Elder Hamula leaves us with this charge: \u201cMy dear brethren of the Aaronic Priesthood, these are your days!\u00a0 Do not squander them!\u00a0 Be sober! Take \u2018the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall\u2026quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.\u2019\u00a0 Then \u2018fight the good fight of faith.\u2019\u00a0 And when you have done all, \u2018stand\u2019 still and \u2018see the salvation of the Lord.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
As mothers, we must be teachers, teaching truths; guides, guiding their way with love and diligence; and parents, never shirking our duty and responsibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
