{"id":699,"date":"2009-04-02T21:41:52","date_gmt":"2009-04-03T03:41:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/?p=699"},"modified":"2012-03-31T09:23:05","modified_gmt":"2012-03-31T15:23:05","slug":"gleaning-for-welfare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/2009\/04\/02\/gleaning-for-welfare\/","title":{"rendered":"Gleaning for Welfare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brigham Young asked Emmeline Wells to organize a wheat storage program.\u00a0 Apparently, it wasn\u2019t easy to get the women out to glean the fields.\u00a0 The women were heard to say, \u201cI will rather give a bushel of wheat than go out to glean.\u201d\u00a0 It was such a problem that women, who refused to do their gleaning duty, were told they had \u201chands\u2026small, white, and tender\u201d;
