Is it possible to have just one favorite scripture?\u00a0 And don\u2019t you have different favorites as you have various experiences during life\u2019s journey?\u00a0 And what about when someone shares their favorite, and it hits you like a ton of bricks, and instantly becomes a favorite.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s impossible to remember all of the scriptures that can absolutely change your life, and uplift you at just the right moment.\u00a0 But it fills me with the Spirit when I hear other people share a scripture and express why it\u2019s important to them.\u00a0 Their testimony becomes my testimony.\u00a0 The added bonus of sharing Spirit to Spirit is, to me, the essence of the gospel.\u00a0 We are in this together; we don\u2019t have to be alone.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
At www.lds.org you can search any vague part of a scripture and find the reference for it.\u00a0 The church, as usual, provides an easy way for us to come to know the word of God.<\/p>\n
Here are just a few of my favorite scriptures.\u00a0 Feel free to share some of your own.<\/p>\n
D&C 88: 104 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And this shall be the sound of his trump, saying to all people, both in heaven and in earth, and that are under the earth\u2014for every ear shall hear it, and every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess, while they hear the sound of the trump, saying: Fear God, and give glory to him who sitteth upon the throne, forever and ever; for the hour of his judgment is come. (I have always loved that picture where people from different cultures and time periods are all bowing before the Lord.\u00a0 We will all come together at this event and I can\u2019t wait.)<\/p>\n
JS-H 1: 25 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0So it was with me. I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two Personages, and they did in reality speak to me; and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true; and while they were persecuting me, reviling me, and speaking all manner of evil against me falsely for so saying, I was led to say in my heart: Why persecute me for telling the truth? I have actually seen a vision; and who am I that I can withstand God, or why does the world think to make me deny what I have actually seen? For I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it; at least I knew that by so doing I would offend God, and come under condemnation. (This statement is so powerful.\u00a0 I have no problem believing Joseph Smith.\u00a0 I know this glorious vision happened and changed the course of the world.\u00a0 His words give me courage to speak up when I need to.)<\/p>\n
Mosiah 2: 22-25 \u00a0\u00a0And behold, all that he requires of you is to keep his commandments; and he has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments ye should prosper in the land; and he never doth vary from that which he hath said; therefore, if ye do keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you.
\n23 And now, in the first place, he hath created you, and granted unto you your lives, for which ye are indebted unto him.
\n24 And secondly, he doth require that ye should do as he hath commanded you; for which if ye do, he doth immediately bless you; and therefore he hath paid you. And ye are still indebted unto him, and are, and will be, forever and ever; therefore, of what have ye to boast?
\n25 And now I ask, can ye say aught of yourselves? I answer you, Nay. Ye cannot say that ye are even as much as the dust of the earth; yet ye were created of the dust of the earth; but behold, it belongeth to him who created you. (I love the last half of this chapter.\u00a0 It is often overlooked because we just look at verse 17-giving service to fellow beings is like serving God.\u00a0 These verses remind me why I\u2019m here.\u00a0 I have made a covenant with God to obey Him and His covenant to me is that He will never leave me alone-ever.\u00a0 I weep when I am reminded that I belong to Him.)
