Have you ever taken the time to read the beautiful words of our hymns?\u00a0 These words can give us comfort, hope, and motivation just when we need them most.\u00a0 When music is added to them, it can almost wash all our anxieties away.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere, when my aching grows, Where when I languish, Where, in my need to know, Where can I run?\u00a0 Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?\u00a0 Who, who can understand?\u00a0 He, only One.\u201d\u00a0 These words, by Emma Lou Thayne (#129), keep us hopeful.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will not doubt, I will not fear; God\u2019s love and strength are always near.\u00a0 His promised gift helps me to find an inner strength and peace of mind.\u201d\u00a0 From Naomi W. Randall, author of I Am a Child of God (# 128).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe streamlet, flow\u2019r, and sod bespeak the works of God; And all combine, and all combine, with most transporting grace, his handiwork to trace, thru nature\u2019s smiling face, in art divine.\u201d\u00a0 Such poetic words from Emmeline B. Wells (#33).

\nI wonder how often we sing the wide variety of hymns in our hymnbooks.\u00a0 There is so much comfort within its pages.\u00a0 Such as these words by \u00a0Ellis Reynolds Shipp, one of the first doctors in our valley:\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cFather, cheer our souls tonight; Lift our burdens, make them light.\u00a0 Let thine all-pervading love shine upon us from above.\u00a0 Bless our loved ones far away; Grant them health and peace, we pray.\u00a0 In their hearts let holy light beam to guide their steps aright.\u201d (# 231)

\nWe know well the \u201cRelief Society\u201d song\u2014Sisters in Zion.\u00a0 But there is another hymn that deserves to be just as important to us:\u00a0 \u201cA key was turned in latter days, A blessing to restore\u2014A gift of charity and peace—To earth forevermore.\u00a0 Our Father, we would turn our hearts to those who seek thy face, give hope and comfort to the poor in mem\u2019ry of thy grace.\u201d (#310)\u00a0 This is a recent hymn, written by Jan Underwood Pinborough, about the key that Joseph turned to the Relief Society that extends our knowledge and responsibility as a sisterhood.

\nAnd finally\u2026Eliza R. Snow.\u00a0 What a great poetess she was; a woman who truly understood the gospel and knew how to express the beauty of it.\u00a0 \u201cHow great the wisdom and the love that filled the courts on high and sent the Savior from above to suffer, bleed, and die!\u00a0 His precious blood he freely spilt; His life he freely gave, A sinless sacrifice for guilt, A dying world to save.\u00a0 How great, how glorious, how complete Redemption\u2019s grand design, where justice, love, and mercy meet in harmony divine!\u00a0” (#195)<\/p>\n
I hope Relief Societies from all over the world can find a way to sing and enjoy\u00a0all of our\u00a0beautiful hymns.\u00a0 Use your practice time wisely.\u00a0\u00a0Get together during the week and enjoy\u00a0a “sing-in”.\u00a0 Prepare musical numbers for Sacrament Meeting, Relief\u00a0Society, or a Fireside.\u00a0\u00a0Stretch your sisters and\u00a0teach the seldom sung hymns that are in our hymnbook…All language hymnbooks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
