font-family: Calibri;\">How often do you have your Family Home Evening, Family Scripture Reading and Family Prayer?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">It isn\u2019t a failsafe guard for our children here on earth, but I believe our efforts will be counted in the hereafter.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>We have been commanded to hold these family meetings and there is an eternal reason.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">Now, how easy is it to hold these meetings?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s darn near impossible!!!!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Our family was of the Family Home Screaming variety and the Family Scripture Snorefest.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If a child was yelling or complaining about anything, typically that was the child asked to say the prayer.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yeah, we know, that\u2019s pretty cruel.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The prayer may have been short, but there was usually no yelling after the prayer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">There are a million and one ways how to conduct these meetings and they all work.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Some people are more organized than others.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Some families are more cooperative than others. <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>Some kids are trained to not know anything different.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Most families can learn and achieve the appropriate habits.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>And I believe very strongly\u2026that any effort of the above three counts in your behalf.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord gives freely<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">an A<\/em><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>for effort.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Here are just a few suggestions for families who need fresh ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">Family Home Evening:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>(Sunday or Monday night)<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Let the kids be the teachers.<\/span><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Couples can practice marriage techniques, perform service projects, or study the scriptures together.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Singles can meet together and do good all over the place with their enthusiasm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Teach children old fashioned skills, dying arts, things that no one else teaches anymore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Lessons from the scriptures, FHE manual, Preach My Gospel, church magazines can go a looooonnng way.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">Family Scripture Reading:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>(daily)<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Have a complete devotional meeting with music, talks, etc.<\/span><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">(kids moving around will be kids awake.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Draw pictures of what you read.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Test the kids during FHE what they have learned in Family Scripture Reading.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">Family Prayer:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>(mornings, meal times, bedtime\u2014some or all, whatever you can do)<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Teach children to pray for one another, ward members, missionaries, the prophet, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Discuss what should be prayed about beforehand.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small; text-indent: -0.25in;\">Thank one another for the prayer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Calibri;\">The blessings from performing this very important commandment may not be evident in this earth life, but don\u2019t let that frustrate you.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Think beyond the mark, spice things up occasionally, pat yourself on the back for sticking with it, AND DON\u2019T GIVE UP.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The blessings of living and teaching this gospel are worth every effort you can muster.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The rewards will be yours.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord hath spoken it.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How important is it to have \u00a0\u00a0Family Home Evening, Family Scripture Reading and Family Prayer?\u00a0 How often do you have your Family Home Evening, Family Scripture Reading and Family Prayer?
