And we just don\u2019t talk about it enough. Instead of being intimidated by women who complain and demand some special privilege or other, where are the women with eyes to see? Those are the ones that build me up. Those are the ones whose hands join with mine in power. Those are the ones who I want to stand alongside.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/womens-conference.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9167\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/womens-conference-300x169.jpg?resize=300%2C169\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/womens-conference.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/womens-conference.jpg?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/womens-conference.jpg?w=850&amp;ssl=1 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>This session of conference<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1978\/10?lang=eng\">(Oct. 1978)<\/a> is the first women\u2019s meeting held for all women, twelve and older.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Pres. Spencer W. Kimball gave a profound and inspiring<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0talk during this meeting. I invite all to read it. (Note: It is very long but full of great counsel.) I offer just a few of my thoughts and insights. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>MAY WE BE<\/em> <em>WOMEN WITH EYES TO SEE\u2026.<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8230; <em>THE WORLD FOR WHAT IT IS<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Pres. Kimball warned,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWe have no choice, dear sisters, but to continue to hold up the ideal of the Latter-day Saint family. \u2026 But we cannot set aside this standard,\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">because so many other things depend upon it.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This is a prophet of God prophesying of our day. If we follow the world and ignore the sanctity of the family, it will destroy the very purposes of the Plan of Salvation. So many other things truly do depend on the traditional family unit designed by God.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/prayer-.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8176\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/prayer--200x300.jpg?resize=200%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/prayer-.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/prayer-.jpg?w=298&amp;ssl=1 298w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Barbara B. Smith offers a short and simple list on how to avoid being deceived by a world that cannot save you. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Pray to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">not be deceived.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Study the scriptures and the example of the Savior.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Listen to the prophet whom God has anointed to lead us.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Truth stands the test of time and this list is based on truth. It\u2019s almost so simple and \u201cboring\u201d that we forget how important following these three safeguards really are.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2026 <em>THE SAFETY NET OF THE PROPHETS<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Three women spoke in this session\u2014Ruth H. Funk (outgoing YW president), Elaine A. Cannon (incoming YW president), and Barbara B. Smith (RS president). All of them spoke of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">the importance of following the prophet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Today, we have women screaming for their voices to be heard in opposition to<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0sustaining our prophet and apostles. Do not be deafened by those voices. Follow the prophet, he knows the way. Use your spiritual eyes to see what God is showing us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2026 <em>THE POWER WITHIN PLACED THERE BY A LOVING FATHER<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Pres. Kimball speaks boldly in his talk. He says,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cLet there be no question in your mind about your value as an individual. The whole intent of the gospel plan is to provide an opportunity for each of you to reach your fullest potential, which is eternal progression and the possibility of godhood.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This promise has power <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">to help us through the bad times; to help us overcome. He continues, \u201cRemember also that if you succeed, it isn\u2019t because of luck. Success comes from faith and work and prayer and from constant <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">righteous effort.\u201d That is using our power well. His words remind, and reassure, me of my own power. \u201cWe have grown strong as a people because our mothers and our women have been so selfless.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2026 <em>THE PATH TO GLORY<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">There are many paths to follow, but only one with a glorious reward. It\u2019s so easy, today, to get caught up in causes and detours. We all want to fit in and not stand out in any way. We are being told over and over again that we can have it all if we accept the world\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/NO-NAME-No-Regrets-2-434x600.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8308\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/NO-NAME-No-Regrets-2-434x600-217x300.jpg?resize=217%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"217\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/NO-NAME-No-Regrets-2-434x600.jpg?resize=217%2C300&amp;ssl=1 217w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/NO-NAME-No-Regrets-2-434x600.jpg?resize=434%2C600&amp;ssl=1 434w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 217px) 100vw, 217px\" \/><\/a>standards, but once again, a great prophet warns:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cEach of you should be grateful to be a woman! Self-pity is always a sad thing to see and especially when there is no justification for it. To be a righteous woman is a glorious thing in any age. \u2026 The righteous woman\u2019s strength and influence today can be tenfold what it might be in more tranquil times.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I felt recharged after reading Pres. Kimball\u2019s talk. He offered hope to women in distress. He reminded us of our responsibilities. Maybe, more importantly, he validated what many of us are feeling inside, but hiding because it isn\u2019t very accepted in the world. Being daughters of God, we know what we must do, but it\u2019s scary to stand up against the world we live in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">There are women who feel it necessary to speak up about the pain they wallow in. It\u2019s true, since the beginning of time, women have been taken advantage of. But, pointing fingers and speaking out will not end the terrific pain we have all had to endure. Sis. Smith charges women to \u201cbe part of the solutions.\u201d And Pres. Kimball reminds us that we are all capable of \u201cfaith, fortitude, denial, selflessness, and good service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Does this sound like wallowing? No. We need to remember the power we have been given. Not to stand up against men. Not to show an overbearing strength. But to fulfill our responsibilities as daughters of the God of Creation; to be women with eyes to see the glory of that Heavenly Being. To demonstrate our desire to act in His name, to fulfill His will, to build His kingdom. Then, sisters, we will see glory given to us, our families, and all our loved ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">There is no greater power or privilege.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is nothing I like more than talking about the power given to women in the LDS church.
