These, in particular, are easily the same messages we receive today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1979\/10\/pornography-the-deadly-carrier?lang=eng\">Thomas S. Monson<\/a> uses the catchphrase: \u201cpernicious permissiveness.\u201d He speaks of pornography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1979\/10\/after-much-tribulation-come-the-blessings?lang=eng\">Adney Y. Komatsu<\/a> quotes President Kimball, who said: \u201cSuffering can make saints of people.\u201d This talk is<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/master-teacher.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9483\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/master-teacher-300x169.jpg?resize=300%2C169\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/master-teacher.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/master-teacher.jpg?w=768&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> about overcoming tribulation and learning self-mastery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1979\/10\/happiness-now-and-forever?lang=eng\">Richard G. Scott<\/a> says, \u201cHappiness is created.\u201d He explains that \u201cLove is its center. It\u2019s principle ingredients are sincere faith, true repentance, full obedience, and selfless service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1979\/10\/commandments-to-live-by?lang=eng\">O. Leslie Stone<\/a> simply states, \u201cKeep the commandments.\u201d He explains how simple a command that sounds, but how difficult it really is to do. \u201cThe Lord requires of those who dwell with him the ability to overcome weaknesses and imperfections. He requires self-denial and self-discipline.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1979\/10\/we-will-go-with-our-young-and-with-our-old?lang=eng\">Hugh W. Pinnock<\/a>\u00a0speaks of the \u201celderly disciple.\u201d We must look to \u201cour elder mentors, our examples, some of our dearest friends.\u201d They are full of wisdom, experience, and maturity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1979\/10\/the-gift-of-the-holy-ghost?lang=eng\">LeGrand Richards<\/a> testifies of the Holy Ghost. \u201cThe gift of the Holy Ghost is as important to man as sunshine and water are to the plants. You take them away, and the plants would die. You take the Holy <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/christ-nephites-art-lds_1340330_inl.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8892\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/christ-nephites-art-lds_1340330_inl-300x193.jpg?resize=300%2C193\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/christ-nephites-art-lds_1340330_inl.jpg?resize=300%2C193&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/christ-nephites-art-lds_1340330_inl.jpg?w=450&amp;ssl=1 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Ghost out of this Church, and this Church would not be any different than any other church.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1979\/10\/give-me-this-mountain?lang=eng\">Spencer W. Kimball<\/a> seems to wrap up all of the thoughts of the previous talks by offering this pledge to the Lord and to us,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>\u201cI will go forward, with faith in the God of Israel, knowing that he will guide and direct us, and lead us, finally, to the accomplishment of his purposes and to our promised land and our promised blessings.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>\u201cAnd Jesus said unto him, No man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God\u201d (Luke 9:62).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>\u201cI will \u2018wholly follow the Lord my God\u2019 to the fullest extent of my energy and my ability.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this conference session, I see powerful catchphrases that help me remember the messages and emphasize the warnings we generally hear at any conference time.
