How are you feeling about this topic and what is expected of you? Have your feelings changed from what you thought Visiting Teaching was about? And what happens now?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Brethren clearly feel this change in attitude is urgent, seeing as the emphasis is strong and clear. Have we set our new personal ground rules? Are we taking this seriously and learning new things about the sisters we are ministering, so we can serve them better?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Your sister might have an obvious need. Serving her may be fairly easy for you. But what if your sister doesn\u2019t appear to have any needs? Or, if asked, claims to have no needs? What do you do then?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I\u2019ve been thinking quite a bit about this. If we have been tasked to minister, but there is<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Relief-Society-sisters-in-class.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9123\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Relief-Society-sisters-in-class-300x148.jpg?resize=300%2C148\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Relief-Society-sisters-in-class.jpg?resize=300%2C148&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Relief-Society-sisters-in-class.jpg?w=620&amp;ssl=1 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> no visible sign that ministering is needed\u00a0or wanted, what we do must be discerned. The only way to accomplish this is through the Holy Ghost. Heavenly Father knows this sister intimately. If we are listening to the Spirit, we will get an impression of what to do. We must learn to call upon the Holy Ghost to serve others as well as fill our own lives with holiness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Brethren have commanded us clearly. It is for us to have \u201ceyes to see and ears to hear\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/ot\/deut\/29.4?lang=eng\">(Deut. 29:4<\/a>), unlike the Israelites who stayed deaf and blind for 40 years as they wandered aimlessly in the wilderness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If we are struggling with what to do and how to do it, the Book of Mormon gives us a guideline to follow. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/bofm\/alma\/32?lang=eng\">Alma 32<\/a> teaches us that we can plant a sister in our hearts. We\u2019re told to nourish the sister. How do we do this? See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/bofm\/alma\/32.28?lang=eng\">verse 28<\/a> to track the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">For my experiment to work, <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I must assume she is a \u201cgood\u201d sister, worthy of my friendship. (Likely, she is).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Does she \u201cenlarge my soul\u201d? Or in other words, do I know her well enough to enjoy her company? If not, I need to ask her questions about herself and get to know her, so I can connect with her.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Does she \u201cenlighten my understanding\u201d? Have we ever had a heart to heart conversation where we have been edified together? Have I asked for her advice on anything, or asked her to teach me something?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Is our relationship \u201cdelicious\u201d? Do I love this sister?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/love-tree.jpeg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9779\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/love-tree.jpeg?resize=225%2C225\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/love-tree.jpeg?w=225&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/love-tree.jpeg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>We are given a warning that if this growth isn\u2019t happening \u201cyour ground is barren, and ye will not nourish the tree\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/bofm\/alma\/32.39?lang=eng\">Alma 32:39<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">We aren\u2019t expected to make regular visits, according to our new ministering directive, but how else can we experiment and see if our \u201cfriendship trees\u201d are growing? It will take \u201cfaith \u2026 great diligence, and \u2026 patience\u201d (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/bofm\/alma\/32.41?lang=eng\">verse 41<\/a>) to see a relationship grow between us. Once we have grown our friendship tree, and it stands tall and sturdy, we can reap the fruit\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">of our relationship, which will be \u201cmost precious, which is sweet above all that is sweet, \u2026 white above all that is white, \u2026 pure above all that is pure\u201d (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/bofm\/alma\/32.42?lang=eng\">verse 42<\/a>), and we will both be filled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This is quite a promise. Are we willing to take on this experiment? Those words\u2014faith, diligence, and patience\u2014will be tested. Our sister may not want to experiment along with us. Maybe our sister doesn\u2019t want an open relationship, or perhaps she struggles with trust issues\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">or simply doesn\u2019t see us as a blessing at all. Then what?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">No matter. This is an experiment worth testing faithfully, diligently, and patiently. This test works one-sided, as well as two-sided<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0if we let it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Here\u2019s an interesting phenomenon: Most of us are not experiencing a catastrophic event in our lives that demands special care, yet, all of us are experiencing an imperfect, difficult life. This must be considered as we recognize our sisters as daughters of a God<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/forgiving-jesus-christ.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9340\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ldswomenofgod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/forgiving-jesus-christ-300x227.jpg?resize=300%2C227\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/forgiving-jesus-christ.jpg?resize=300%2C227&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/forgiving-jesus-christ.jpg?w=450&amp;ssl=1 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> who loves them. We are meant to love them also.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">For sisters who never really had a testimony of the importance of Visiting Teaching, may you gain a testimony of ministering that is \u201cChristlike caring for others &#8230; helping meet their spiritual and temporal needs,\u201d (quoted from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/ministering\/first-presidency-letter?lang=eng\">First Presidency letter<\/a><\/span>).<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> Put into action the \u201cone-by-one\u201d principle, found in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/scriptures\/bofm\/3-ne\/11\">3 Nephi 11<\/a>, where everyone had the opportunity to love\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">and be loved, by their Savior.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Adding a Footnote:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Ministering isn&#8217;t simply fulfilling an assignment anymore. Ministering must be offered to each person we encounter in whatever form the spirit whispers to us. May we seek to plant every sister\u00a0in our hearts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve spent the last four months talking about Ministering.
