{"id":9938,"date":"2018-11-05T10:58:23","date_gmt":"2018-11-05T16:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/?p=9938"},"modified":"2018-11-06T10:39:21","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T16:39:21","slug":"do-you-think-gospel-based-activities-are-boring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reliefsocietywomen.com\/blog\/2018\/11\/05\/do-you-think-gospel-based-activities-are-boring\/","title":{"rendered":"Do You Think Gospel-Based Activities Are Boring?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">You know, I have to admit, I don\u2019t understand people that say gospel-based activities are boring. Gospel-based would be discussions about the scriptures, the church, Jesus Christ, etc. Basically, anything that strengthens our personal testimonies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">All the Relief Societies I\u2019ve ever been in feel like they have to entertain the sisters rather than feed them anything \u201cchurchy.\u201d I\u2019ve seen a lot of leaders almost embarrassed or even apologizing for having a \u201cserious\u201d activity, instead of fun and games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The real tragedy is those in charge of lessons and activities have weak testimonies themselves. I\u2019ve actually listened to teachers and leaders tell us what the prophets say we should be doing, and later admit to everyone that they themselves aren\u2019t willing to do it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I believe President Nelson\u2019s messages are coming in loud and clear. We need to have more gospel in our lives, or we will miss our boat and it will finally be too late. It\u2019s time to really take a look at our testimonies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This week\u2019s General Conference Odyssey covers the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lds.org\/general-conference\/1981\/10?lang=eng\">October 1981<\/a>, Sunday morning session. I have chosen to write about Bruce R. McConkie\u2019s talk. Please don\u2019t let this post become a snooze-fest. He speaks of things that are crucial to our salvation and we need to hear it now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">He says, \u201cWhat then is our message for all (wo)men?\u201d And then he breaks it down into three truths:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The divine Sonship of Christ<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The divine mission of the Prophet Joseph Smith<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The truth and divinity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Then he asks some really insightful questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Do I hunger and thirst after righteousness as did the Saints of old?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Do I have an open mind and a willingness to prove all things and hold fast to that which is good?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Am I willing to receive new light and truth from heaven?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Do I have the moral courage to learn whether Joseph Smith was called of God?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Am I willing to pay the price of investigation and gain a personal revelation that tells me what I must do to gain peace in this world and be an inheritor of eternal life in the world to come?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Next year, things are going to change drastically. And to be honest, we really don\u2019t have time to fumble, like we did this last year. I have a feeling President Nelson is going to be throwing more curve balls at us and we might stumble ourselves right off the strait and narrow path.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If our mission covers those three divine truths, our vision should be in preparing us to meet our Savior in every activity, every lesson, and everything we do. And, aren\u2019t we done talking ABOUT how to prepare. Our discussions should be about HOW WE ARE PREPARING.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Answer the above questions honestly. Commit yourself to the gospel of Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I testify that when you have found your answers, you aren\u2019t going to think gospel discussions are boring anymore. You aren\u2019t going to vote for another dinner\/game activity night. You\u2019re going to want to be involved in changing lives in order to be prepared for the biggest, most exciting, gathering ever given on this earth: The Coming of the Savior of the World.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You know, I have to admit, I don\u2019t understand people that say gospel-based activities are boring.
