To Keep Up With Our Prophet

Are we preparing for more changes we’ll see in the church, this new year of 2020? You can bet there will be some. Our devotion to God will be seen in how we keep up with our prophet.

Elder Neal A. Maxwell spoke, in October 1986, about what “God Will Yet Reveal,” and we are still watching anxiously to see more of what God continues to reveal.

Pres. Nelson is reminding us, as this new year opens, to set up a study plan to really dig deep into the Restoration of the Church, specifically the First Vision. Have you come up with your study plan yet? Pinterest may have some ideas for you, but if you really want to follow the prophet, it will take exercising prayer and asking the Lord personally, to receive that necessary revelation to make it meaningful for what you alone need to learn. Pinterest can’t do that for you.

We’re also going to read the Book of Mormon together, as an entire Church. How will you make this study different from all the other times you’ve read this book? Or, a better question might be: Are you ready for the Lord to reveal more to you this go ‘round?

Some of us are still waiting to see how John’s Revelation will begin showing up. The Signs of the Times. Well, most of us know better than that. The signs have been showing themselves for years. The real sign—and the only sign we should really be concerned about—is our own preparedness.

Do you remember President Nelson’s words? “It is easier to build a temple than it is to build a people prepared for a temple” (“Closing Remarks”, Oct. 2019). I find that statement very revealing and very concerning. I want to be prepared when the Lord comes.

That means I need to scrub the world out of my soul. I need to be reading and STUDYING scriptures like never before. I need to practice receiving revelation in everything I do. I need to follow the prophet and obey every suggestion he makes. And I need to recognize Satan’s tricks, so I don’t fall for them anymore.

And I might need to ponder this one a little more, but one thing I’ve noticed is that Satan has been working very hard at getting us, as God’s sons and daughters, to forget this Plan of Salvation we are journeying through. He wants us to forget who we are, why we’re here, and where we think we’re going. But we won’t let him do that, will we? God, and His prophets, are revealing too much to ever let us forget that completely. May we hold on to the truth we know. And may we continue to seek and understand more truth out of the scriptures, our own personal revelation, and our dear, beloved prophet.
