A friend of mine made a simple comment in Relief Society, oh, about fifteen years ago.   I have never forgotten it:  Do not suppress a good thought.   Let me tell you what that little phrase has meant to me ever since. If you have a kind thought for anyone, do it.  If you even think […]

| Hebrew

This is part 5 and the final part of a multiple part posting. Please read PART 1, PART 2, PART 3, and PART 4 to get all the background. The Menorah is the Tree of Life. As we know, the facade of the Salt Lake Temple is full of symbolism. Even its spires represent something. […]

I tape Oprah, just in case she has a good show.  My husband calls her show “the gospel of Oprah” with all of her worshipers in the audience.  Occasionally, she does have a good show and I’d like to talk about one I saw the other day. She had a woman on whose husband set […]

Modesty in Dress

When summer comes around it’s hard to tell the difference between the Mormons and the non-Mormons.  They dress alike. Our young women wear as little clothing as possible.  Or else they dress pretty grungy to their church meetings.  Our society is very casual, and in order to fit in we have relaxed our own standards.  […]

Train up a Woman

Times have definitely changed.  Back in the old days, three year old girls were learning how to embroider.  Six year olds were crocheting and mending.  Eight year olds were taking piano lessons and sewing.  Ten year olds were cooking, gardening and tending for the family.  We don’t do that kind of training anymore. I’ve noticed […]

Family Traditions

I came from a family that didn’t really have many family traditions, so when I got married, we developed a whole glut of them.  It’s almost ridiculous, but we have a ton of great memories because of it.  I am happy to share them with you.  And feel free to copy what interests you, or […]

Unrighteous Dominion

| Priesthood/Relief Society

Can I just say a word about unrighteous dominion?  This is probably the biggest problem women have against men. Forever ago, men decided since they were bigger and stronger than women they assumed they were smarter than them too.  All of that kind of went with the same male dominating territory.  They have lorded that privilege […]

This is PART 4 of a multiple part posting, please read PART 1, PART 2, and PART 3 to get the background. In this part, let us discuss the significance of numbers. There are four numbers represented in the menorah symbol. They are the number 7 for the seven branches of the tree, the number […]

| Conference Talks, Priesthood/Relief Society

I am going to take a wild guess that not many women have read Pres. Eyring’s Priesthood address from conference (May 2008).   It is called  Faith and the Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood.  Let me quote from his talk, with just a few side notes from me. “Through keeping the covenants…and renewing them in […]

They Call it Relief Society

I love the story of a Katrina survivor who gives his extraordinary thanks to the two amazing groups that helped so much in the clean-up of their ravaged city:  the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and the Mormons.   It also makes me very proud (I don’t care, I really am proud of this) […]
